I thought you could just arrive and then have the Irish citizens pay for everything you need. Yeah, then those of us long-term resident with Irish spouses and kids have to pay over €1000 while someone with little connection to the country pays so little for passport citizenship. What you do need is to prove that either your mother or grandmother at least was born in Ireland to even be considered. If you can’t do that, forget about all the other requirements.

I’m just going to say this-take it as you may: When the Great Famine happened to Ireland, America took the Irish in. And they came in droves. So if an American, for whatever his/her reasons want to move to Ireland and become a citizen unless one has an Irish parent or grandparent, forget about it? Yeah, that’s fair. I have Irish a passport. You can also travel to all UE countries or live and work there. My father and all my Grandparents were born in Ireland. Just have to get all the paperwork in order. It takes about three months.
